Linux Dangers

It's too late for me.

It's too late for me.

MTNW Gentoo

I finally got gentoo installed and working on the MTNW server. I had a problem with the networking card and instead of compiling the kernel like I wanted to, I did the genkernel route. The only problem I had there was the correct module for my nic wasn’t added at boot so I got to figure out how to get that loaded.

Hiking

Well, we went up for a hike and did glacier lake. It was quite the hike. the actual distance was around 3 miles, but the elevation gain was insane. I didn’t remember to take my camera, but the view was pretty fenominal.

Butte, Here I Come

Well, I’m about to head out to Butte. This should be a fun weekend, just kickin it and experiencing Knievel Days.

Gentoo

Well, I finally did it, I finally hand installed gentoo and got X working. I also put Sabayon on my laptop and I am very pleased with it as well. I’d have to say, I’m going with gentoo for my next server for sure.

Virtualbox

I just found VirtualBox. It’s an easy install and seems to work great. I dare say it works better than VMWare. The only downside, is it doesn’t have bridged networking, but it seems like you can directly use a nic on the host system wich is pretty cool.

Django

I’ve started using a rails app called Django. I’ve fallen in love with it. It’s not only python, but it is very easy to set up the database, views, and program all the data handling structrues. I’d definatly suggest it.

Wisdom Teeth Update

Well, I am still having some problems with my teeth. There is some slight bleeding when I open my mouth. And I can still only open it a little bit. Now, I’m just trying to find anything to keep myself occupied and trying to not talk/open my mouth.

Security on the Web and Phone

With recent news of Phorm and the new act passed into law recently, I fear for my privacy. I would much rather do all communications through an encrypted channel. I do not need someone watching what I say and what I do for any reason. I try to use PGP/GPG (http://gnupg.org/ windows: http://gpg4win.org/) and something like firegpg to easily encrpyt emails through gmail (http://getfiregpg.org/). I will be looking for something in the next few days to try and encrypt phone conversations.

The Apocalypse

I’ve had the discussion with my friends about what would happen if humanity lost telecommunications, power, water, and essentially ever other utility. We’d be thrown to a mid evil-type society. There would no loger be The United States or Montana, It would be the clans of small groups of people banding together to gather supplies, barter, and take care of each other. It may seem weird, but I would love to live through that in my lifetime.

I’m ready for it, bring it on!
